Snapchat has built its product around the fact that its messages disappear after 24 hours.

You can take advantage of this and create messages that disappear within the time frame. These can be specials, coupons, and discounts to will drive followers onto your website or into your shop.

Your aim with this is to get your followers become accustomed to receiving frequent deals through your Snapchat account. Once you have achieved this they will check in on a regular basis, making it easy to share additional products or updates about your brand. This is the perfect way to build customer engagement and loyalty.

Tell your Story!

“Snapchat Stories” is the foundation of the App. Stories are short clips that remain visible for 24 hours on a public newsfeed, which can be watched multiple times by anyone on your friends list.

As a company you can make the most of this feature by putting together short video tutorials, product updates, or other forms of interesting content. Whatever it is, try to make it interesting!.

This isn’t a place to overtly advertise. Keep it short and funny and your product just might go viral.

Snapchat advertising – The Basics

If you want to gain more traction from your account or reach a younger audience there are a few great paid advertising options on Snapchat that are very Snapchat specific.

1. “Snap Ads”

Snapchat adverts are the most traditional method of paid advertising through Snapchat. These can be compared to the ads at the start of YouTube videos.

Between stories a ten second Ad will play – and the user has the option to swipe up if they would like to learn more by visiting a longer video, giving you a chance to expand on the video content.

Snapchat has claims that Snap Ads convert 5 times higher than traditional banner ads, if true this would make it a very effective advertising option.

2. Snapchat Sponsored Lenses

Snapchat can offer you fun filters that you can add to your videos and images – from the classic dog ears you may have seen, to funny beards and blizzards. Whether you want to be a king for a day, or a race car driver, Snapchat will have lenses that can help your dreams come true…

As an example Starbucks created a image of one of their drinks that could be added into any Snapchat. Gatorade made it possible for anyone to get virtually dunked with a giant Gatorade cooler and Taco Bell gave everyone the chance to turn their heads into a taco!

The average user interacts with a brand’s filter for 20 seconds – and often shares images and videos to their list of friends, which can spread into the thousands. This makes paid filters a highly valuable and interactive marketing ploy.

3. Geofilters

Snapchat’s Geofilters allow users to add location-specific filters and frames to their content, as long as they’re in that area. This offers a unique way to stamp an image with proof that you were actually at the stated location!

Businesses can sponsor Geofilters, allowing users to add their frame or filters to pictures that they take while at or near the business.

Geofilters can cost anywhere from $5 to hundreds of thousands for national campaigns.

However, a single day national campaign can reach 40-60% of Snapchat users – making it another highly impactful marketing opportunity!

How will you implement Snapchat?

As you can see Snapchat can be a highly effective tool for both free and paid campaigns.

Although this new social media platform can seem intimidating and confusing once you have a firm understanding of the basics you will have the ability to use this impactful medium to promote your brand.
